Oz Covers most French Wine Regions in One !

Waterwheel has been really producing some fantastic wines lately with great scores from numberous powerhouse wine critics. So I was very interested to try the entry level white which is an interesting blend of Chardonnay[44%], Sauvignon Blanc[32%], Semillon[13%], and Roussane[11%]. Amazing how Australia can produce one bottle that covers such an array of varietals - Bordeaux, Burgundy, and the Rhône Valley in one go !

The wine was a pale straw colour, with some decent aromatics. There were pears, melon and some citrus initially, this was followed up with some spices. It kinda smell like one of those fancy Pear and Star Anise tartlets that you see TV chefs cook. What was surprise to me is that the Rousssane was the smallest part of the blend [11%] with its spicy oiliness it almost overpowering the other varietals.

On the palate the fruits are focused, clean and refreshing with that lovely spice characteristic continuing through. The bendigo had decent acidity, balance and mouthfeel with a finish have some citrus to it also.

A decent effort, that cleans the floor with a lot of other mediocre €8 -€12 New World whites. Solid value at the price point, would have scored higher except the mid palate was a little hollow for me. If you are looking for a solid wine that will go with most summer [if we get one at all] salads, white meat, and seafood this is a pretty good option.
